Title: Split Pea Soup
Soak peas in water overnight. Do not discard water.
The following morning, heat water to boiling and place into crock pot or reduce to a simmer. Sauté onions and ham until tender (I've found this step to be optional); and them and remaining ingredients to hot water.
Simmer gently for about 4 hours until peas begin to dissolve, stirring occasionally. Add additional water as needed.
